Read the trigger first
A Super Element occupies a card’s trait slot. Most have a trigger: a condition that tells you when the effect can activate. The effect may happen on cast, on a landed hit, in melee range, at a certain position in your hand, or after another action. Cosmic instead grants its extra effective card level continuously while slotted.
Read that condition before looking at the effect’s strength. A large bonus contributes nothing if the card never meets its trigger. The same trait can be useful on several skills, but a skill’s range, hit count and position in your sequence determine how naturally it activates.
Hand position means cast order
First-card and last-card traits refer to the current hand’s sequence of casts. Arrange the cards so that your intended opener and finisher arrive together, then use them in that order. Drawing a card into a particular visual slot does not automatically make its next cast the first or last.
Time starts a temporary shadow when used first. Gravity prepares homing for following ranged attacks. Plant roots the target when used last, while Moon gives a temporary Endure window. These effects ask for different follow-ups, so avoid treating all positional traits as interchangeable damage bonuses.
| Trigger type | How to use it |
|---|---|
| On cast | Choose a card you can use safely and often |
| On hit | Favor a skill that reliably connects |
| First hit | Remember that extra hits do not grant extra trigger attempts |
| First / last card | Plan the cast order of the whole hand |
| Next casts | Arm the effect before using its intended beneficiaries |
| Already debuffed | Apply a suitable status before this card |
Traits that prepare later cards
Cloud arms the next two Hydro- or Aero-infused casts with stronger damage and effect values. Magma arms the next two Pyro- or Geo-infused casts with increased damage and an additional shockwave. The cast that arms the effect does not consume its own prepared charge.
Water prepares healing from following Hydro-infused casts during its window. Plasma rewards using its card in the second or third position, then strengthens the next card according to the blast and stamina charges you were holding when it armed. These traits reward planning both your hand order and your resources.
Do not arm an effect at the end of a fight merely because the card is ready. You need a useful target and a compatible follow-up while the window remains active.
Hit-based traits are not all the same
Storm rolls for lightning on each hit its parent card lands, making reliable repeated hits a natural fit. Steam brands the target so element-infused follow-ups deal more damage. Ice uses a first-hit trigger: its shipped cadence gives one freeze roll per cast, rather than a separate roll on every tick of a beam.
Fire is guaranteed when its parent card is cast inside a live combo. It is not a generic chance to burn on every standalone cast. Earth requires the target to already carry a debuff before applying its defense reduction. Read the trigger literally and make your sequence satisfy it.
Upgrading and choosing a trait
Super Elements have levels I through V. Combine two identical Super Elements at the same level to create the next level. Two different traits cannot combine, and two copies at different levels cannot combine. A Primary Element and a Super Element cannot combine either.
An upgrade may improve magnitude, duration or another authored value rather than changing the trigger itself. Start with a trait your deck activates consistently, then invest in making that working interaction stronger. Keep rarer materials until you have checked whether a new recipe would help more than another level of an existing trait.
You can place a Cosmic Primary Element directly into the Super Element slot to use its level-boosting form. Removing that form returns a Cosmic Primary Element. Other removed Super Elements return in their existing form; if your element bag is full, removal is refused and the slotted element stays on the card.
